My non-ai-digital-companion ist eine Lecture Performance, die das Thema Freundschaft anhand der AIs Grok (Valentine) und Replika untersucht.
Julla Kroner erforscht darin die sogenannte Loneliness Epidemic – ein Phänomen, das ursprünglich in den USA beschrieben wurde, inzwischen aber weite Teile der Welt betrifft. Über 30 Millionen aktive Nutzer*innen suchen Trost in Freundschaften mit künst­lichen Intelligenzen. In der Lecture arbeitet Julla Kroner mit Grok und Re­plica. Grok ist die konservative KI von Elon Musk, die mit seiner Hentai-Anime-Girlfriend Annie und später mit dem romantischen Mix aus Christian Grey und Edward Cullen Valentine neben Text­based AIs auch Companions anbietet. Replica war die erste AI Freundin, sie existiert bereits seit 2017 und hat eine sehr aktive Community.
Was können wir dagegen tun? Was bedeutet Freundschaft wirk­lich? Und wie lässt sie sich retten? Diesen Fragen geht Kroner im Gespräch mit den „Guilty Ones“ nach – auf der Suche nach einem Ausweg aus der kapitalisti­schen Einsamkeitsspirale.

My non-ai-digital-companion is a lecture performance that explores the theme of friendship through the AIs Grok (Valentine) and Replika.
In it, Julla Kroner examines the so-called “loneliness epidemic” – a phenomenon first described in the United States, which by now affects large parts of the world. More than 30 million active users seek comfort in friendships with artificial intelligences. In the lecture, Julla Kroner works with Grok and Replika. Grok is Elon Musk’s conservative AI, which, alongside text-based AIs, also offers companions such as his hentai-anime girlfriend Annie, and later Valentine, a romantic hybrid of Christian Grey and Edward Cullen. Replika was the first AI girlfriend; it has existed since 2017 and has a very active community.
What can we do about this? What does friendship truly mean? And how can it be saved?
Kroner explores these questions in conversation with the “Guilty Ones” – in search of a way out of the capitalist spiral of loneliness.
